Safety
Date safe, date happy.
Most dates are just two people having a nice time. These habits keep it that way.
If you're in immediate danger, call 911.
MY420LOVE DOES NOT CONDUCT CRIMINAL BACKGROUND SCREENINGS OF ITS MEMBERS.
In plain English
MY420LOVE DOES NOT CONDUCT CRIMINAL BACKGROUND SCREENINGS OF ITS MEMBERS.
There's no substitute for acting with caution with anyone you meet online. Chat here first, meet in public, tell a friend, get yourself there and home, and never send money.
If you're in immediate danger, call 911.
If something feels off, block and report. We read every report, and the person won't know it was you.
Safety tips
Most people on My420Love™ are here for the same reason you are. These tips help keep it that way. Read them once. They matter.
Before you meet
- There's no substitute for acting with caution with anyone you meet online.
- Anyone able to commit identity theft can also fake a dating profile. Photos can be stolen and stories can be made up.
- Take your time. Chat on My420Love first, and consider a video call before you meet.
- Know what a badge means. Photo Verified means our team matched a live selfie to that member's profile photos. It is not an identity check or a background check.
- Watch for red flags: someone who won't video chat, whose story keeps changing, who falls in love very fast, who pushes you to move to another app, or who brings up money.
- Trust your gut. You never owe anyone a date, an explanation or your time.
Protect your info
- Never put identifying information in your profile or first messages, like your full name, home address, workplace, phone number, email address or social media handles.
- Stop talking to anyone who pressures you for personal or financial information.
- Keep the conversation on My420Love until you've met. Our safety tools and reporting only work here.
- Think about what your photos show. We decline photos with house numbers, license plates and badges, but check the background of anything you share.
- Use a strong password you don't use anywhere else. We'll never ask for your password by email.
- Go discreet if you like. Discreet mode keeps our emails neutral, and you can install My420Love with a discreet app icon.
Scams
Romance scammers look for kind people and tell good stories. Never send money, gift cards, crypto or financial information to anyone you haven't met, no matter the reason.
Common signs of a scam:
- they say they love you very quickly, but they can never meet or video chat;
- they're "overseas," "deployed" or "working far away," and there's always a reason they can't meet;
- a sudden emergency, like a hospital bill, a customs fee, a plane ticket or being stuck at an airport;
- an "investment" or crypto opportunity that sounds too good to be true;
- they want to move to another messaging app right away; or
- they ask you to receive or send money or packages for them.
When a message mentions money, we show the person receiving it a heads-up. If we remove someone for fraud, we notify every member who exchanged messages with them.
If you think you've been scammed: stop replying, don't send anything more, report them in the app (choose "Scam, or asking for money"), and call your bank right away. You can also report it to the Federal Trade Commission at reportfraud.ftc.gov and to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov.
Meeting in person
- Meet in a public place, at least for the first few dates.
- Tell a friend or family member where you're going, who you're meeting and when you'll be back. When you plan a date in the app, you can use "Share my plan" to send them the details.
- Never agree to be picked up at home. Arrange your own transportation there and back.
- Stay in control. Keep your phone charged, keep an eye on your drink and your belongings, and stay sober enough to make clear decisions.
- Leave whenever you want. You can end any date at any time, no explanation needed.
- Try a group setting. Events from the My420Love family are a relaxed way to meet, with friends around.
Cannabis and dates
- Only where it's legal for adults 21 and over, and only in a private residence or a licensed consumption lounge.
- Never in public. Consuming cannabis in public is illegal in many places, including Nevada and Illinois.
- Never drive impaired, and never ride with someone who is. Plan your ride home before you go.
- Don't accept anything you didn't see opened or bought yourself, including edibles, pre-rolls and drinks.
- Go slow, especially with edibles or anything new to you. It's always fine to say "no, thanks."
- Consent and cannabis go together carefully. Someone who is too impaired to make clear decisions can't give consent.
- Don't cross state lines with cannabis. The law changes at the border, even between two states where it's legal.
- New to cannabis? Our sister site Gettin' Comfy With Cannabis has beginner-friendly guides.
If something goes wrong
- If you're in immediate danger, call 911.
- Get somewhere safe, like a public place, and call someone you trust.
- Report it to us. Open their profile or your conversation, tap Report and choose "Something happened on a date." We hide their profile right away while we review. You can also email safety@my420love.com.
- Keep evidence like screenshots and messages. When you report, we also save a copy of the recent conversation for our review.
- If you've been sexually assaulted, it is not your fault. Get to a safe place, and consider medical care even if you don't plan to report. You can call RAINN at 1-800-656-4673, any time, to talk with someone confidentially.
- We cooperate with law enforcement when you report to the police. Our Law Enforcement page explains how.
Background checks
MY420LOVE DOES NOT CONDUCT CRIMINAL BACKGROUND SCREENINGS OF ITS MEMBERS.
We also don't verify members' identities. Background checks based on a name search are easy to fool and can give people a false sense of security, so we focus on what we can do well: a person reviews every photo and video before anyone sees it, our filters watch for scams, sales and solicitation, members can report in two taps, and we work to keep banned people from coming back. None of that replaces your own caution.
Report and block
- Block anyone, anytime. It's instant and works both ways: you disappear from each other everywhere, and any match or conversation is removed. They aren't told.
- Report from any profile, message, compliment, love story or event guest list. Reporting blocks the person too, unless you choose otherwise.
- Choose a reason: might be under 21; threats or violence; something happened on a date; shared intimate images of me without consent; scam, or asking for money; trying to buy or sell cannabis; offering or requesting paid sex; harassment; pressuring me to move off the app; hate or discrimination; explicit photos or messages; fake profile or catfish; pretending to be someone else; spam or ads; using my photos or content; or something else.
- What happens next is explained in our Community Guidelines. The person you report never learns it was you.
- Not a member? Email safety@my420love.com. To remove intimate images, use our takedown form; no login needed.

Policy
This is the My420Love Safety Policy. It applies to every member, everywhere, and it is the safety policy we publish under Colorado's Online Dating Safety Act. Its version and effective date are shown at the top of this page.
1. Prohibited content and conduct
Our Community Guidelines list everything that isn't allowed. We treat these especially seriously, because they threaten members' safety:
- anyone under 21, and anything that sexualizes a minor;
- threats, violence, stalking and harassment;
- sexual conduct without consent;
- sharing intimate images without consent, including fake or AI-generated images;
- scams, fraud and requests for money;
- buying or selling cannabis or other drugs;
- commercial sex and solicitation;
- impersonation and fake profiles; and
- encouraging impaired driving.
2. Background screening
MY420LOVE DOES NOT CONDUCT CRIMINAL BACKGROUND SCREENINGS OF ITS MEMBERS. Name-based background checks can be inaccurate and can create a false sense of security, so we rely on the safety measures in this policy instead. If we ever begin screening, we'll update this policy and tell members first.
3. Identity and age verification
- Age. Members must be 21 or older. Everyone gives their date of birth when they join, and we check it carefully so no one gets in even a day early. If someone is under 21, we stop them and no account is created, and repeat attempts from the same email address or device are blocked for 30 days. A date of birth can't be changed after joining.
- Email. Members must confirm their email address before they're shown to anyone or can send messages.
- Photos. A person reviews every photo, video and verification selfie before anyone sees it, and every member's first photo must clearly show their face.
- Underage reports. A report that a member might be under 21 hides their profile immediately while we review it. Accounts of anyone under 21 are removed.
- Photo Verified (optional). A member takes a live selfie copying a pose we choose, and a person on our team compares it with their profile photos. We don't use face-recognition technology, and we delete the selfie 30 days after the decision. The badge doesn't confirm anyone's legal name, identity or history.
- Events. Every event requires a valid government ID at the door.
- What we don't do. We don't verify legal names or government IDs online.
4. How we notify members about reported conduct
- If you report someone, we confirm that we received your report, and we let you know when we've taken action.
- If we remove a member for fraud, meaning they may have used a false identity or may pose a significant risk of trying to get money from members by fraud, we notify every member who exchanged messages with them within 24 hours. The notice includes only the removed member's display name, the reason, a reminder never to send money or financial information to anyone you meet online, and a link to our scam tips.
- If a report is about you and we take action, we tell you the reason category and how to appeal.
5. Suspensions, bans and appeals
- How we decide. We review reports and our safety signals, consider how serious the conduct was and the member's history, and then may remove content, send a warning, limit features, hold messages, suspend an account or ban it permanently. A person on our team makes every suspension and ban decision.
- Automatic safety holds. The most serious reports hide a profile immediately while we review. If three different members report someone within 7 days, their profile is hidden until we review it. A member with two or more open reports has their outgoing messages held for review.
- Immediate bans apply to the most serious conduct, listed in our Community Guidelines.
- Keeping banned members out. We keep scrambled (hashed) signals, such as a hashed email address and a device ID, for 5 years, so banned members can't simply rejoin.
- Appeals. A suspended or banned member is told the reason category and can appeal each action once, in writing, in up to 1,000 characters. A different staff member than the one who acted reviews each appeal within 7 days, and we email the outcome.
6. How to report
- In the app: tap Report on any profile, message, compliment, love story or event guest list.
- By email: safety@my420love.com, for members and non-members alike.
- Intimate images: our takedown form, no login needed. We hide reported images right away and remove them within 48 hours of a valid request.
- Copyright: our Copyright page.
- Emergencies: call 911 first.
7. Consent
Engaging in sexual conduct with another person without their consent violates this policy and the criminal law. Members who do so are permanently banned, and we cooperate with law enforcement.
8. Support for survivors
If you've experienced sexual assault or domestic violence, you are not alone, and it is not your fault. National hotlines, and resources for members in Colorado, Nevada and Illinois, are listed under "Help and hotlines" above.
9. Other safety measures
- A person reviews every photo, video and verification selfie before it's shown.
- Automated filters look for sales, solicitation, scams, hate and contact details shared too early, and hold or flag them for review.
- A heads-up appears when a message mentions money.
- New accounts have lower daily limits and can't send links for their first 48 hours.
- The same message sent to many people is held for review.
- Images we've removed are blocked from being uploaded again.
- Every staff account uses two-factor authentication.
- Locations are shown only as a metro area, and there are no read receipts or typing indicators.
- Discreet mode is on by default for our emails.
10. Law enforcement
We cooperate with law enforcement when we receive valid legal process, and we may share information in an emergency involving a risk of death or serious injury. Our Law Enforcement page has the details.
